Number 3: Meatbodies’album Meatbodies ( 2014) We saw them at the Brudenell in 2015 and it blew my mind.” ![]() This record definitely inspired my guitar playing and our songwriting, but at the same time it kind of makes you feel totally inadequate! It’s a proper fuzzed-out Hendrix-inspired racket, also really fun to watch live because the songs lend themselves to jamming and changing up…check out ‘What’s In My Head’. They’re like one of those classic rock bands where each musician is so impressive (but in a non-cheesy way) that it makes you want to vomit. It’s Ty Segall’s side project where he plays drums/sings alongside guitarist Charles Moothart and bassist Chad Ubovich. The new album isn’t so heavy but is also great, and I’m in love with Cory’s solo album from last year, ‘ The Unborn Capitalist from Limbo‘, which is a lot folk-ier – the string arrangements are so good.” I saw them play a weird small festival somewhere in Belgium when I played a tour for Menace Beach and again at the Brudenell, sounding massive. ![]() ![]() I think hearing this, and Ty Segall/Oh Sees’ stuff, gave us more confidence to create the kind of harmonies we do and for me to sing quite softly. ![]() “ We all love this album and are mega into the new (ish) garage psych-rock scene coming out of LA (as you’ll tell by this list!) Wand are kind of hard to describe, it feels a bit like if The Beatles were reborn as heavy metal-ers…’Self hypnosis in 3 days’ is so goddam HEAVY, but the vocals are sweet and the harmonies are beautiful.
